We have worked with over 10,000 businesses in their start-up phase. On the front line of enterprise, our PNE Enterprise team provides support to aspiring entrepreneurs and starts ups, providing tailored services that encourage successful and sustainable ventures. When working with larger businesses, we connect our clients with start-ups and organisations promoting start-ups, or use the skills, knowledge and resources gained from 35 years of supporting start-ups to generate ways for them to reach ambitious entrepreneurs.
Working with new businesses promotes a virtuous cycle – if businesses can start, grow and prosper they can influence future change. Here’s a look at some look at some of the start-ups we have worked with and the impact they’ve had:
Many of the microbreweries opening to meet a growing demand for real ale didn’t have the time or resources to distribute themselves in areas outside their own reach. To solve this problem Sam Medd-Sygrove started CASK Wholesale, a wholesale distribution company serving local microbreweries, using a start-up loan and business support provided by PNE Enterprise. CASK Wholesale made a significant contribution to the development of craft brewing in the North East, easing the challenges facing a wave of new businesses, filling the distribution gap in the supply chain and strengthening the industry.
Angel Care Home Services Ltd
‘I was able to move to bigger premises, buy more equipment and hire more staff.’ The growth of Angel Care Home Services represents a significant success in an area with one of the highest rates of worklessness in the North East, where 17.4 of the working age population are without employment. Traditional sources of revenue had declined founder Angela Graham, however PNE Enterprise recognised the business’ potential, providing her with funding and the resources to develop her management skills to prepare for a larger team.
The brainchild of Andy Stephenson, 25, award-winning Weekend in a Box provides a unique postal subscription service providing weekend activities for young children. Andy worked with the PNE Enterprise team utilising their mentoring services and business plan writing support and gaining access to funding through their administration of Start-Up Loans North East and Cumbria.
Weekend in a Box won the Big Start Up Loan Award 2014 and Andy became a regional representative for Start Up Loans UK at the National Start Up Loans delegation. He had an audience at No. 10 with the Prime Minister and entrepreneur James Caan CBE to champion the importance of start-up investment and accessible business support. Read the full case study here.
