North East Workspace (a PNE subsidiary) has an extensive track record of planning, funding, implementing, and managing incubator workspace developments. Our varied portfolio combines sensitive restoration projects, with innovative new-build developments. We aim to create enterprise communities where both peer support, and commercial collaboration can be fostered. With sympathetic rental terms we try to ease the financial pressures that newly formed businesses often suffer.

In 1985 PNE set up the first Youth Enterprise Centre providing "one-stop shop" advice, training, loans, and accommodation for young people starting a business. In 1987 we opened Design Works (a former Burtons warehouse) providing innovation, and other common business services for design-orientated businesses. Craft Works has since been built, and in October 2005 a new high-tech Annexe building was opened at this Gateshead site. Woods Pottery a centre for creative orientated business was opened in 2006.

Flagship development Silicon Alley is an intriguing complex of sensitively restored buildings in the historic Grainger Town area of Newcastle. Years of collaboration with IT-oriented clients has led to the development of an ICT communications infrastructure second to none. Based in Silicon Alley, "Big Netty" is a fully integrated local area network providing secure state-of-the-art broadband internet access together with on-site IT support. A server farm provides a secure internet presence for clients. In addition to PNE offices and tenants, other workspace developments are wired-in, amounting to approximately 1500 users in total.
