- The North East is currently facing a deficit of experienced management, with 40% of management teams holding no previous experience of growing a business prior to the one they currently work in.
- The perceived lack of support provided by management teams across the region directly impacts the confidence of the region’s entrepreneurs and business owners, with 47% of SME owners in the region reporting a belief that their businesses wouldn’t survive for a week without them.
Commenting in the report, Tracey Moore, Executive Director of PNE Group, said: “At PNE Group, we have spent the last 38 years supporting businesses in the region, helping over 10,000 business to start-up. The North East economy, however, is facing challenges which need to be addressed; one of the most important being a widening productivity deficit in relation to the rest of the UK.”
