Message from Richard Clark

It is very hard to pay tribute to Bill Hudspeth’s contribution to PNE, as it was immense. In some ways, it’s easier to talk about the projects and buildings that Bill played an integral part in maintaining whilst with PNE.

  • Brass Tacks on Norham Road
  • No.1 Pink Lane
  • 65 Westgate Road
  • The Old Post Office
  • 7-15 Pink Lane
  • 63 Westgate Road
  • The Old Casino
  • Craft Works
  • Design Works
  • The Annexe
  • Edinburgh Buildings
  • Woods Pottery
  • Steenbergs Building

13 in all and that is not including nearly 20 projects, the creation of 2 new buildings and 9 heritage /restoration projects. A huge undertaking, the impact of which can still be seen today through the support that PNE and North East Workspace provide to the North East business community.

There are some things that I will always remember: The Royal Ascot Jackpot win, Cool Dawn winning the Gold Cup at 50-1 (there was not much work done the next day), going to Uganda, the fact that Bill always went on holiday when the plasterer arrived and his love of scaffolding and finally the joy on his face when the planning permissions and the money arrived for a new project.

On behalf of the PNE and North East Workspace team, I would like to express how greatly missed Bill will be, and we send our deepest condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.
