North East Workspace

Dedicated to supporting the success of start-ups and SMEs, North East Workspace manages PNE Group’s portfolio of Newcastle based properties, providing commercial workspace to small and growing businesses.

Founded in 1990, the North East Workspace portfolio incorporates 7 properties, housing 47,800 sq ft of commercial space, and focuses on two unique business environments: Pink Lane and Ouseburn Village. The latter incorporates two award-winning Ouseburn sites, Woods Pottery and Steenbergs Building – both of which are historical conversions designed to serve the creative and buzzing business community of the Ouseburn area.

North East Workspace has been recognised countless times throughout the years for its thoughtfully designed and preserved buildings equipped with high-quality digital infrastructure, and for their contribution to the Newcastle enterprise landscape. In 1999, the televillage development on Pink Lane was named one of the Top Ten Science Based Incubators in the world. This was a result of the large numbers of digital and design start-ups that took residence within Pink Lane, resulting in a thriving, industry hub that earned Pink Lane the nickname ‘Silicon Alley’. Following the installation of high-speed internet service in 2000, North East Workspace was awarded the One2One Regional Business Support Award. In 2001, North East Workspace received their first Lord Mayor’s Design Award for their Pink Lane site which won the Shop Front Category. Six years later, both the Woods Pottery and Steenbergs Building at Ouseburn received Lord Mayor’s Design Awards.

The North East Workspace business model is intended to make office space accessible to start-ups and SMEs and to provide an environment which will encourage the prolonged success and growth of businesses. To achieve this, they offer commercial but fair rents, with 28 days ‘easy-in/easy-out’ licences.
