Shell LiveWIRE Global Winner Named Innovation Inspiration by Singapore Gov
6th April was a landmark moment for Shell LiveWIRE Top Ten Innovators Award Winner Esther Wang, as the work of her business Joytingle was highlighted in Singapore’s annual parliamentary budget speech.
Delivered to parliament and televised across the country, the speech utilised Esther’s innovative product ‘Rabbit Ray’, which is used within paediatric care to reduce the trauma of children undergoing intravenous procedures, to demonstrate a start-up contributing valuable social progress.
Speaking on the topic of innovation, Mr Heng Swee Keat, Singapore’s Finance Minister, expressed optimism for Singapore’s future as business innovators. To demonstrate innovative business approaches, he drew on the impact of ‘Rabbit Ray’ and Joytingle’s thoughtful mission to make a difference for children undergoing medical treatment, going on to highlight Esther’s success in winning Shell LiveWIRE’s global Top Ten Innovators Award.
Speaking about Esther’s business, Mr Keat said, “I am very happy to have young people like them who understand that innovation is not just about technology or gizmos. But really about meeting human needs, making the world a better place, and how they can make an impact in the lives of others.”
Commenting on social media after the speech, Esther said, “We are honoured to be highlighted as a Singapore innovation solving a human need.”
As a result of the exposure Esther was invited to be interviewed on Channel News Asia’s News 5 Tonight. The interview will be aired on 15th May.
‘Rabbit Ray’ is a unique pacification toy used to calm young patients undergoing vaccinations or intravenous chemotherapy procedures. The visual nature of the toy enables it to transcend language barriers, literacy levels and race. Since the business started in 2012, the product has been used with over 10,400 children in several hospitals throughout Singapore.
