Places for Everyone is Launched

2007 marked the start of Places for Everyone, a £6.7 million programme to buy, build and develop new and existing premises in the region, funded by the Third Sector Capacity Fund and One North East. The project supported 130 North East voluntary and community sector groups to consider and undertake capital development projects including refurbishments, extensions and new buildings as well as asset transfers or purchases. In addition to transforming the architectural landscape of several North East business areas and growing the assets of community groups, the developments saw the creation of 24 new jobs and the safeguarding of a further 47, in a time of increasing unemployment, economic uncertainty and financial challenges.
